Hi. My name is Burnie. Or Alex Burnard. Or both.
I’m a longtime veteran of Crispin Porter + Bogusky where I spent over fifteen years rising through the ranks - joining as an Art Director in 1998 to Executive Creative Director of the Miami office in 2011. My last role there was that of Chief Innovation Officer for the network of offices.
During my time at CP+B, the agency was named Agency of the Year nine times and was recognized as the Worldwide Agency of the Decade in 2010.
I love creating strategic based, creative platforms for brands that allow clients to find their place in pop culture. I’ve been lucky enough to do that for a number of iconic brands such as: Coke Zero, Ikea, Maxim, Nike, Under Armour, Truth, Molson, Vitamin Water, Buell Motorcycles, Burger King, AND1, Shimano, Pilar Rum and GT Bicycles.
Some of the highlights of my time at CP+B:
- The North American launch of Coke Zero. My partner and I then proceeding to steward the brand for it’s first seven years. The result is the creation of the most successful new product launch for the Coca-Cola company since Diet Coke.
- The North American launch of the Mini and the Mini convertible at a time when SUV consumption in the U.S. was at its highest.
- An integral part of defining the Truth brand which resulted in the most effective anti-tobacco campaign in history. (It was estimated at one point to have saved over 200,000 lives) It was also named by Ad Age as one of the top 20 campaigns of this century.
- The invention and creation of the AND1 Mixtape Series. A set of fifteen minute video tapes that brought streetball to the masses and literally redefined basketball at all levels for over a decade. At one point it was been named FootAction’s most successful retail promotion of all time.
The industry has been kind to me. It’s honored my work with every major advertising award - winning Best of Show on a few occasions. And allowed me to see the world with speaking engagements in Jakarta, Melbourne, Stockholm, Kuala Lampur and Helsinki.
New things.
In 2013 I left CP+B to try and change things up a bit. That included freelance work for agencies like Possible, David/Miami and 72 and Sunny. I also started a creative studio in Miami with my friend Mike del Marmol. The studio is called Sun&Sons. www.sunandsons.co It exists to help visionary entrepreneurs looking for a creative ally to help them launch their dream projects as well as a house for our personal projects.
We’ve purposefully sought to help as many Miami businesses as possible. This has led to us helping a ton of food/beverage/hospitality clients. We’ve designed the interior and exterior of bars and restaurants, handled branding for hotels, set up ecommerce systems and designed packaging and merch for all of them. Gramps, one of the bars we helped launch, has been named best bar in Miami 5 times. Two of the pizza places we helped launch are currently ranked in the top 5 pizza places in Miami.
The future.
I’m always looking for new, interesting challenges where creativity could be applied. Drop me a note if you want to chat.
Thanks.
